Board of directors

The people who answer for VHV.

Our board is responsible for Veterans Housing Veterans as a whole: where we are going, how we spend every dollar, and whether we keep our promises to veterans, residents and donors.

    Board Chair

    George Schembri III

Founder and CEO · U.S. Coast Guard veteran, 2002 to 2009

George founded Veterans Housing Veterans in 2021 after meeting a homeless veteran who could not get housing or find anyone to help him make the move into a home. He has spent his working life in construction, real estate, rentals and mortgages, and he funded VHV with his own money to get it started.

    Director

    Roxana Novoa

    Also VHV’s Program Director

Roxana joined VHV in 2026. She builds partnerships with the organizations that connect veterans with housing, referrals and resources, and she runs the day to day: getting homes ready, intake and move-in, billing and house rules. She brings experience in property management and housing coordination, and she is working toward her Certified Recovery Residence Administrator (CRRA) credential.

    More about Roxana

Both of our current directors also help lead VHV day to day. We are now inviting people from across Tampa Bay to join them, so the board brings in more voices and more experience. To reach the board, email info@veteranshousingveterans.com.

What the board does

The board’s job, in plain words.

  • Sets the direction

Approves VHV’s mission, plans and yearly budget, and decides where we grow next.

  • Protects the money

Reviews our finances and makes sure every gift is used the way the donor was told.

  • Keeps us accountable

Makes sure VHV follows the law, its bylaws and its own rules, and oversees the CEO.

  • Opens doors

Connects VHV with partners, funders, landlords and the veterans who need a place to land.

Join our board

Help lead the way home for Tampa Bay’s veterans.

You do not need board experience. You need to care about veterans, show up, and bring what you know. Veterans, military families and people who have lived through homelessness or recovery are especially encouraged to apply.

Experience we would especially welcome:

  • Finance or accounting
  • Law
  • Real estate, construction or property management
  • Fundraising or grants
  • Housing, social services or case management
  • Recovery or behavioral health
  • Veterans services
  • Marketing or communications
  • Human resources
  1. Send the short form. It takes about five minutes.
  2. We reply within 2 to 3 business days to set up a conversation.
  3. You meet the board. We talk through the time it takes, how often we meet and how long a term lasts, so you know exactly what you would be signing up for.
  4. The board decides on new directors at a board meeting.
